Scrawny models with robotic expressions, wearing sparse, weirdest possible clothing like stuff and walking in the same traditional cat-walk style, the number of fashion shows just seems to be growing everywhere. In fact, television channels are replete with such shows and events.
But disparaging them would be unjust. After all this phenomenon is not as bad as it seems, coz these shows are always a treat to watch in the absence of comedy shows and movies.Furthermore, a vast multitude of tailors and some designers get to showcase their clothes which no one ever actually buys, through this ‘fashion world’, providing employment to a lot of people and entertainment to an even greater number of people. And the fashion industry abets the film and entertainment industry, providing them attires and accessories they could never manage to create themselves. And most importantly, sci-fi movie directors can directly the costumes for aliens and astronauts from these shows, saving them a lot of trouble.
But a serious cause of concern is theadverse effects all this has on young kids. Studies show that an increasing number of kids are being affected by such stuff they watch regularly on television and magazines. Kids as young as 5-6 years old try to dress up and act like their fashion idols. This undoubtedly takes away the childish charm away from them. So, next time you see a kid watching a ‘fashion show’, be sure to instantly switch it with a ‘cartoon show’.
(PS: whether any normal person actually buys the stuff they display shall always remain a mystery for me .)
